The touristy island of Lampedusa has become an icon of today’s border control regime. Its traditional heritage of a sleepy Mediterranean fishing island sits in stark contrast with its new unwelcome role as the barbican of fortress Europe.
This seminar aims to offer different perspectives on migration, looking into international politics, ideas of community and belonging and engagements with art and memory.
